Targets for 2023

We know the dedication of the clinical team at the Churchill Hospital. It is an important ingredient that keeps them at the forefront of the treatment of oesophageal and stomach cancers.

We at OOSO "do our bit" providing advice and guidance to patients both pre and post-surgery.

But there are still gaps to fill in order to provide a fully rounded approach to treating patients.

For example, in the past OOSO has supplied small but important items (amongst others) because the NHS funds just don't go that far.

  • Bedside electric adjustable chairs, allowing patients to sit upright and comfortably after surgery.
  • Electric bedside fans to ease oppressive heat in the summer months.
  • Fridge freezers, refrigerators and microwaves to help patients with special meals when the standard hospital food fails to hit the spot.
  • Food blenders for patients who cannot afford them, to take home and use to make essential meals.
  • Exercise bicycles to assist patients with movement and flexibility as they transition from a hospital bed to walking at home.

Because of the close relationship that OOSO has with the clinical team, over the last two years we have also provided important and more costly equipment for example including the following:

  • Two Medela Thopaz abdominal drain monitoring systems. Cost £6,800
  • Two Phillips Efficia ward monitors
These mobile units are used by nurses on the Upper GI ward to monitor a patient's vital signs following major surgery. Cost £4,900
  • Two specialist treatment chairs
Ergonomic chairs for the Chemotherapy Suite. Cost £3,200

For 2023 we plan to continue purchasing daily use items and equipment for the UGI ward and Chemo Suite, as well as organise and fund the following activities and events proactively designed to maintain and enhance excellent patient care and experience.

  • UGI new nurse induction and training sessions with former patient input.
  • Ward staff team away-day sessions with OOSO - focus on excellent patient care.
  • Annual review of ‘care and experience’ with senior clinicians and former patients.

As you can see your contributions will go to very worthy causes. Every little helps so please don't feel that the challenge is too large. By the inch it's a cinch.

Even if it's not right for you to contribute, you can still help us by telling your friends about this page. If you'd like to email the link it's https://fundraise.charitycheckout.co.uk/ooso/cf/ICUBeds
